Part of kayak fishing is solitude, but part is enjoying the fellowship of like minded anglers. I recently did a Roundtable Discussion with The Milkcrate Magazine, about the Importance of Organized Events in Kayak Fishing. Much of the time you spend hanging out with fellow anglers is on the bank or shoreline.
Here is a guide for the Kayak Angler to Hanging out on the Shoreline:
1) Most Importantly, don't destroy the land or water. Avoid littering. Pick up more trash than you came with. Beyond the trash, take care of the bank itself. Be careful not to disturb the land. This will help prevent premature erosion of the bank and shoreline.
2) Meet new people. Kayak fishing is a community withing the fishing community. Most kayak anglers are extremely nice and love discussing what their plans are and how they did. Meeting a new kayak angler is like seeing an old friend. My favorite for sitting around after a good day of fishing are fajitas!!!
3) Enjoy yourself. Eat some good food, BBQ, burgers, sandwiches, or even fish, are all examples of great shoreline food. Have some good drink, WATER, Gatorade, or your favorite Craft Brew, all all great at the right times. While I am still on the water, I drink nothing but water. When I am done and it is time to kick back and relax, an ice cold Craft Brew Beer from a local brewery can't be beet.
Eat, drink, share, and half fun on the shoreline of your next kayak fishing trip!
