Fishing was slow and the wind was tough on Big Blue. I got beat up by the wind and teased by the bass. I launched my Cuda from Spur 406 and stayed in that area. The lake is LOW!!!
The topwater bite was good before 6:45 am. To bad I missed all but the last 15 minutes of this. I landed one 15.5" keeper and missed one fish on an old Excalibur Poppin' Image in a shad pattern. I used the BioEdge scent wand on all the topwater baits I threw today. At 6:45 the topwater bite turned off, but the fish were still active and hunting for the next 15-30 minutes. During that time I caught 2 keeper bass (one 16.5" and one 14.5") on a P. H. Kellner Custom Jig in a sunfish pattern with Sunfish sunfish scent added, and one undersized fish. All fish were caught in the hydrilla in about 2-3 feet of water. Just out from were we launched.
At right about 7:00 or 7:15 the bite shut down. I couldn't get anything on the topwater, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or soft plastics for the next 4 hours. During that time I gradually worked out to deeper water in search of fish. Finally around noon I was able to land a 14" bass on a DD-22 in about 20 feet of water. It was just a loner though, no more fish hit my lure out there.
At about 1:00 I started to move back shallow. I still wasn't catching fish in the same areas that I started the day, so I decided to downsize. It was pretty good choice. What I did was to take a senko in a smoke w/purple flake pattern, and cut off the back 3.5" This bottom 3.5" is what I fished with, Texas Rigged and slathered in Talapia sent from BioEdge. In about an hour I was able to land 2 more keepers, both about 15" and one undersize fish.
At that point I was tired of the relentless wind beating me up, thrashing me into the trees, and only allowing me to make one cast before I had to paddle against it for five minutes to get back in position to cast again. Like I said it was a tough day. But hey, I caught fish so it was a good day.
