Lake Bastrop

I wanted to share this cool pic that Autumn Villanueva (wife of Marcus VIllanueva, another KATS competitor) snapped of me, while I was fishing the KATS tournament on Lake Bastrop last month.

I can say that I did not catch any of my fish flipping the reeds like this, haha.  To see more of the pictures she took that day, here is a link: http://austinkayakfishing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10065. Enjoy!

  1. Nice pic! Good to see a pro not using a fish finder. I prefer to stay primitive and hunt for fish. I always think FF's look goofy on yaks anyway...too trophy for me I guess...

    1. I will be honest. I use a fish finder from time to time, but I only use it when I know I will be fishing deep that day and I need to know the depth and find deep depth changes on lakes that I don't know. I just put it on this year, but I made it so that I can take it off when i want to. I am like you. I like to keep things as primitive as possible most of the time.

  2. I can see the advantages. Comes in handy like you mentioned. For me though, I can't have anything in front of me, or even to the side of me. I feel cramped. I'm constantly trying to minimize my load. I'm down to 4 rods now, one of them being an UL. Guess I can see how a FF in a tournament would really help. I shouldn't be a hater. I bet if I tried one I would like it, ha ha! -Anon #1

    1. I am with you 100% about minimizing, and last year I never used one. But, I kept telling myself, "this is a tournament, money is on the line, think how good you are doing now and how good you would be if you just got a depth finder." Well, it hasn't helped me in the standing, and like you saw, I didn't even use it the last tournament. Haha.
