Loon Outdoors - The Mixing Cup Review

Mixing Cup

Most of you know that I, beyond Fish Tattoo, am a custom rod builder for my company P. H. Kellner - Quality Custom Fishing.  I know many of you who read this tie your own flies and are custom rod builders yourselves, so this product should interest you.

It is The Mixing Cup from Loon Outdoors.  First of all, I would like to say that Loon Outdoors is a great company with a commitment to protecting the environment and the waters that we all love to fish, and that is always the type of company that we should support.  On top of that, they have some great products for the fly angler.

Anyway, back to The Mixing Cup.  It is touted as a product to mix head cements in for tying flies.  Here is what the website says:
The Mixing Cup is the perfect vessel for modifying head cements and UV Clear Fly Finish, and all but eliminates clean-up. Because cements will not bond to the Mixing Cup, once cured they will pop out.

FEATURES:

- Unbreakable
- Suctions to smooth surfaces
- Will not bond to cements or epoxies
- Eliminates clean up
But, I wanted to try it out myself, for rod building.  It is always a pain in the neck to remember to buy plastic or aluminum mixing cups to mix epoxy and Flex Coat in, so I hoped that The Mixing Cup would be a product that I could buy once and use forever, for each and every rod I build.  Well...it seems to be exactly what I wanted.  I have built three rods using The Mixing Cup, and mixed the epoxy and Flex Coat each time in the cup.  When the product hardens, you can just pop out the remaining, hardened mix, and you are ready to go again.  Perfect.

If any of you are custom rod builders, this is a product that you should invest in.  Here are a couple pics from my experience:
