I've tried using those new fangled jigs but they just get in the way. In my opinion I can't keep the same kind of "custom" tension on my thread as I can on a standard jig. I like the ability to lift the rod off the jig and move it around to get things just right. Modern jigs don't let you do that very well if at all and so I think quality must suffer. Maybe not, but it seems like it would have to.
Yeah, I agree with you. It may be a slower method, but it is more personal, and like you said, you can really control the thread. I even built that myself.
Old fashioned rod jig. I like that.
