Texas Parks and Wildlife is celebrating 50 years.  They produced this cool little short video in honor of their first 50 years, and looking forward to the next.

I know that I don't always agree with, or understand, everything that Texas Parks and Wildlife Does, but for the most part, they do great things, and are an awesome part of Texas and everything outdoors in our State. They are a great asset to Texas.

  1. I spent some time in Arizona and spent time near a major target area for the Nature Conservancy and through that experience I learned that the Nature Conservancy doesn't truly care about our ability to enjoy the nature we are preserving. They think that the earth should be returned to the wild completely and not be touched at all.

I then had contact with several Forest Rangers and other state park officials and found that none of them like the NC because the NC would rather that everything burned to the ground instead of maintaining the forest (which would have been maintained by no-longer-existent buffalo or wild hogs, etc).

That all said, TPWD has the same mindset as the Forrest Service. While they are there to protect a portion of nature, they also want us to enjoy it. There are many reasons for this but it's sufficient to say that without member participation it's hard to get funding to maintain upkeep. This is why I buy a parks pass every year. I barely use it enough to pay for it, but the money goes to a good cause - protecting Texas for future generations.

I don't always agree with everything they do either, but it's better than fencing off thousands of acres for "the gods".... and don't get me started on the hypocrisy of the NC.

    1. Yes, I have thought about that in my head many times before. I want to protect and preserve nature as much as anybody; however, I do feel that people should be able to enjoy it. I also know from experience that more people care about the environment when they get to be a part of it. More Americans will be willing to protect what we have when they are out hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing!

And yes, like I said, just because I don't agree with everything TPWD does 100%, does not mean that I think it is a bad department. They are much needed and do a great job.
